Christmas Eve, Tokyo

My 14-year old son called me on my mobile at 4PM today, the Christmas Eve. “Mom, we want to eat fried chicken from the Kentucky Fried Chicken tonight. You know it’s Christmas Eve!”
I was definitely not enthusiastic. I knew there was going to be a queue. I mean, you should order ahead of time for that. And since I was brought up in the US, eating stuff from the Kentucky Fried Chicken just doesn’t FEEL right.
But this is Japan. My kids grew up in Japan. And it’s important for them to celebrate the Christmas eating Kentucky Fried Chicken and Christmas cake like many other people do here.
