Oscar Boyd offers thought-provoking ideas in his article, Japan Times Commentary Section: Why is Japan still a coronavirus outlier? As a researcher/ethnographer, I would like to propose the following reasons why Japan is still a coronavirus outlier. To offer a perspective, Mayo Clinic offers the following for the cause for coronavirus: Mayo Clinic: Coronavirus disease 2019… Continue reading Ethnographic perspective on slow coronavirus spread in Japan
Reading, watching TV, listening to music growing up
I Refuse to Run a Coronavirus Home School Lovely article in the New York Times. After reading it, I remembered that this is exactly how I grew up, from kindergarten through high school. It wasn't the pandemics, but my family situation was always uncertain having an unstable mother living the best she could. loving me… Continue reading Reading, watching TV, listening to music growing up
Update
What?! It's been two years since I talked about random whatever on this blog! Fujiko Suda is alive and well. Lost 12 kg (26 lbs) last year. Overshot the goal to maintain BMI 22, but I settled at BMI 20 since maintaining the weight at this state is easy, and I feel good physically. Losing… Continue reading Update
Imprinting
I was recently hospitalized for a minor surgery, and being a researcher, I was fascinated and curious why women chose to be nurses. Long hours, heavy responsibility of taking care of patients often facing life or death situation, patients suffering. As smart as these women have to be to admitted into a college nursing program… Continue reading Imprinting
Thoughts I Had While Cooking Grits
Grits bubbled and boiled. I stirred it hard, created whirling pattern with hot grits in the pan. I love grits. I love southern food. I wish I was back in the south. I wish I was traveling through the two-lane back roads in the morning somewhere, where southern food restaurants serving proper American southern food… Continue reading Thoughts I Had While Cooking Grits
My favorite Indian restaurant
When our family moved to live in Tokorozawa, which is waaay outside of the central district of Tokyo, I was not expecting much in the way of choices of places to eat out. I am very happy my expectation was wrong. One of my favorite place to eat near my home is Jaipur. The Indian… Continue reading My favorite Indian restaurant
Jadav Payeng builds a forest on a barren island by planting one tree at a time
Forest Man video Although I trust my source, Ian Messer , I am so worried about spreading "fake" news now, I cross check every story before I share it publicly online. Ian shared a story on his Facebook page about "Jadav Payeng: Man plants a tree in the same place every day — 37 years… Continue reading Jadav Payeng builds a forest on a barren island by planting one tree at a time
Hope Renewed
https://youtu.be/rCoFKUJ_8Yo Elon Musk is the man of the hour, once again. His knowledge, achievement, financial worth is greater than they were in the Great Dot Com era of the 1990's. Why some of us achieve
The photograph of Aisholpan and her eagle on my Twitter feed caught my eyes two years ago. I am glad her photograph caught British journalist, Otto Bell's eyes as well. He will share Aisholpan's story of becoming the first female eagle hunter in 12 generations in Mongolia. Two years ago, the photograph of Aisholpan's solemn… Continue reading Why some of us achieve
Book alert in 2 years advance: Aesthetics of Joy by Ingrid Fetell Lee
Cliches are unfortunate. They paint a picture of the important slice of life, but because they have been quoted so much, that people ignore them. More time I spend in my life, everything seems to be able to be expressed in cliches. But because I have come down to these words after much living and… Continue reading Book alert in 2 years advance: Aesthetics of Joy by Ingrid Fetell Lee
louder, freer, kinder
This month marks the tenth year anniversary of my little company, Project Kobo. I've always had the tendency to become too serious with anything and over the past ten years, maybe I have taken myself and the world too seriously. I need to start acting my age, and be louder, freer, kinder. My theme for… Continue reading louder, freer, kinder
